THE AUSTRALIA CASE

A country built for skilled
professionals.

Strong economy. World-class healthcare. Top universities. Public schools that work. Long, safe coastlines and four world cities. For an Indian skilled professional, Australia consistently ranks among the top three destinations for quality of life, career growth, and long-term family settlement. PR is the status that locks all of it in.

$

Stable, high-income economy

Three decades of nearly uninterrupted growth, low unemployment, and skill shortages across IT, engineering, healthcare, trades, and education. Salaries are among the highest in the OECD.

★

Top-tier quality of life

Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide rank year after year among the world's most liveable cities. Clean air, public transport that runs, and walkable neighbourhoods.

+

Public healthcare via Medicare

Eligible permanent residents can access Medicare, Australia's public healthcare system, including subsidised medical services and public hospital care.

A

World-class education

Australia has internationally recognised universities and quality schools. Eligible permanent residents can access education and may receive benefits under applicable domestic fee and education rules.

⇄

Multicultural, English-speaking

Australia is a highly multicultural country where English is the primary language. Migrants can find established communities, international workplaces, and diverse cultural networks.

∞

Permanent settlement security

Once you obtain permanent residency, you can live, work, and study in Australia permanently, subject to the conditions attached to your visa and Australian immigration law.

⚖

Strong worker protections

Australia's workplace system provides minimum employment standards, workplace protections, and minimum pay requirements for eligible workers.

⌂

Family-first migration

Eligible family members can be included in certain visa applications, while permanent residents may also have pathways to sponsor eligible family members under Australian immigration rules.

WHAT PR ACTUALLY UNLOCKS

Permanent Residency isn't a
visa.
It's a status.

A work permit ends when the job ends. A study visa ends when the course ends. PR provides a long-term status that can give you greater freedom to live, work, and build your future in Australia, subject to the conditions of your visa.

✓

Live, work, and study anywhere in Australia

Permanent residents can generally live, work, and study across Australia. Unlike temporary employer-sponsored arrangements, permanent residence provides greater flexibility to change employers, careers, and locations.

✓

Bring your spouse and children

Eligible family members may be included in certain applications, while permanent residents may also have pathways to sponsor eligible family members under Australian immigration rules.

✓

Medicare — Australia's public healthcare

Eligible permanent residents can generally access Medicare, Australia's public healthcare system, subject to applicable eligibility rules and waiting periods.

✓

Education opportunities for your children

Permanent resident families can access Australian education opportunities, including public schooling. Higher education fees and eligibility for support depend on the institution, course, state, and applicable rules.

✓

Pathway to Australian citizenship

Eligible permanent residents may apply for Australian citizenship after meeting the applicable residence and other citizenship requirements. PR does not automatically lead to citizenship.

✓

Sponsor eligible family members

Australian permanent residents may be able to sponsor eligible family members through available family migration pathways. Eligibility, sponsorship requirements, and processing times vary by visa category.

✓

Travel freedom and return rights

Permanent visas generally include a travel facility that allows international travel and return to Australia while that facility remains valid. After it expires, a Resident Return Visa may be required unless another applicable status applies.

✓

Career and lifestyle stability

Permanent residence can provide greater long-term stability for your career, family, education, and settlement plans compared with temporary visa arrangements.

Honest note. Specific benefits — including Medicare eligibility, education access, sponsorship rights, travel facilities, and citizenship eligibility — depend on the visa subclass granted (such as 189, 190, 491, or 186), your circumstances, and current Australian government policy. Provisional subclasses such as 491 have different conditions and pathways to permanent residence. The WorldVisaHelp eligibility assessment helps you understand which pathway may fit your profile.
THE MECHANICS

How Australia skilled migration actually works.

Australia uses a structured skilled migration system where eligibility, skills, English ability, occupation, points and nomination can all play a role. Here's the nine-stage pathway — from deciding whether you qualify to receiving a visa decision.

01

Eligibility evaluation

Age, English level, education, work experience, occupation and other profile factors are reviewed against the requirements of the relevant skilled migration pathway.

02

ANZSCO mapping

Your occupation and duties are matched to the relevant Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) code. The correct occupation classification is important for the skills assessment and visa pathway.

03

Skills assessment

Your qualifications and experience are assessed by the relevant assessing authority. Depending on your occupation, this may include bodies such as ACS, Engineers Australia or VETASSESS.

04

English test

Take an approved English-language test such as IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, OET or another accepted test. Your result can affect eligibility and the points available to you.

05

Expression of Interest (EOI)

Submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect where required. Your profile enters the pool and can be considered for an invitation based on the applicable visa and selection criteria.

06

State / regional nomination

For pathways requiring nomination, a state or territory may assess your profile against its own eligibility criteria, occupation priorities and nomination requirements.

07

Invitation to Apply (ITA)

Eligible candidates may receive an invitation to apply based on the relevant selection process. Meeting the minimum points requirement does not guarantee an invitation.

08

Visa lodgement

After receiving an invitation, submit the visa application with the required supporting documents. This can include identity records, skills assessment evidence, English results, health checks and character documents.

09

Decision

The Department of Home Affairs assesses the application and makes a decision. If the visa is granted, you can move forward with your Australian settlement plans subject to the conditions of your visa.

FIVE DOORS · ONE STATUS

The skilled migration pathways
to Australian PR.

The right route depends on your occupation, points, skills, sponsorship and circumstances.

SUBCLASS 190

Skilled Nominated Visa

Direct PR · State / Territory nominated

A permanent skilled visa for workers nominated by an Australian state or territory. Each jurisdiction sets its own eligibility, occupation priorities and nomination requirements.

SUBCLASS 491

Skilled Work Regional Visa

5-year provisional +15 points PR via 191
EMPLOYER-SPONSORED

Employer-Sponsored Pathways

Employer sponsored · Temporary or permanent

Employer-sponsored visas can allow skilled workers to work in Australia through an eligible employer. Depending on the visa, occupation and circumstances, some employer-sponsored pathways can lead to permanent residence.

Study-to-Migration Route

Australia's skilled occupation lists, state and territory nomination programs, points test thresholds, visa subclass rules, and processing times can change frequently and at the direction of the Australian Government and Department of Home Affairs. Cut-offs, invitation criteria, and points test components are reviewed and updated regularly. Verify against the official source before applying.

Final visa decisions are made solely by the Australian authorities. WorldVisaHelp does not guarantee visa approval, an invitation, permanent residence, or any particular immigration outcome. For complex cases — including prior visa refusals, character or health concerns, onshore filings, employer-sponsored, family, partner, tribunal appeals, and other specialist pathways — professional immigration advice may be appropriate.

Questions we hear before every
Australia PR file.

Eligibility depends on factors such as your age, occupation, qualifications, skilled work experience, English language ability, skills assessment, points score and the specific visa pathway you are targeting. Meeting the minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee an invitation or visa grant.

Australia's points-tested skilled migration visas consider factors including age, English proficiency, skilled employment, qualifications and other eligible criteria. Subclass 189, 190 and 491 use the points test, with additional points potentially available for factors such as state nomination or eligible regional sponsorship.

A skills assessment determines whether your qualifications and experience meet the requirements of the relevant Australian assessing authority for your nominated occupation. Most skilled migration pathways require a suitable skills assessment before proceeding with the application.

You may need to demonstrate English language proficiency depending on your visa pathway and circumstances. Accepted tests can include IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, OET and other approved tests. Higher English scores can also contribute additional points under the points test.

If your occupation is not eligible for the particular skilled visa you are considering, another pathway may still be available depending on your circumstances. Employer-sponsored, state nominated, regional, study or other visa options may have different occupation requirements. Your occupation should be checked against the current requirements before applying.

Skilled Independent migration does not require state or territory nomination, while state-nominated pathways involve nomination by an Australian state or territory. Regional pathways such as subclass 491 have additional regional residence and work conditions and can provide a pathway to permanent residence when the applicable requirements are met.

State or territory nomination allows an Australian jurisdiction to nominate eligible skilled applicants for particular visa pathways. Each state and territory can have its own occupation priorities, eligibility requirements and selection process.

Potentially. Depending on the visa and your spouse's circumstances, points may be available for an eligible partner with the required age, English and skills criteria. Applicants may also receive points under the applicable rules where they do not have a spouse or partner.

Your information can be used to estimate your points profile and identify potentially relevant skilled migration pathways. The assessment is an initial guide, not a visa decision. WorldVisaHelp can then help you understand the next steps based on your profile.

A previous visa refusal does not necessarily mean you cannot apply again. The reason for the refusal, the visa previously requested, your current circumstances and the requirements of the new application all matter. Previous refusals should be disclosed where required and reviewed carefully before submitting another application.

If WorldVisaHelp offers both Standard and RMA-supported services, the appropriate option depends on the complexity of your case. Standard support may suit straightforward applications, while regulated migration-agent support may be more appropriate where professional immigration advice or representation is required.

WorldVisaHelp can assist with the stages included in the service you select, which may include eligibility assessment, pathway selection, documentation, application preparation and submission support. The exact scope depends on the service package and your visa pathway.
